Biographical history

El Mercurio es un periódico tradicional chileno, políticamente de derecha fundado por Agustín Edwards Mac-Clure con varias ediciones a lo largo del país. Su edición más importante es la de Santiago, donde se publicó por primera vez el 1 de junio de 1900 y es distribuido nacionalmente con circulación diaria. La edición de El Mercurio de Valparaíso, publicada a partir del 12 de septiembre de 1827, es el periódico en circulación más antiguo de Chile y del mundo en lengua castellana.
